"Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws"

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a toxicity of the jaw, upper or lower, occurring in patients with osteoporosis who are taking antiresorptive medications, and in cancer patients with bone metastases who are taking antiresorptive medications and/or angiogenesis inhibitors and other targeted therapies.

Recently, a new and growing patient group — patients with autoimmune diseases who are taking immunomodulatory agents, with or without antiresorptive medications (immunomodulators) — has also been diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the jaws.

MRONJ seriously affects patients' daily lives and quality of life, and may even lead to interruption of necessary treatment, resulting in reduced therapeutic outcomes.

The Dentist plays a critical and important role in prevention, patient education, safe dental care, and early diagnosis of MRONJ — should it occur — as well as in assessment, staging, and communication with treating physicians, with the goal of effective therapeutic management.

In this webinar, we present the latest scientific data, strengthen clinical reasoning and collaboration among healthcare professionals, and highlight the valuable contribution of the Dentist in the safe care and treatment of these specific patient groups.
