Digital Health in Oncology: Patients undertake their role! Quality of Life 13. 10. 2019 “Digital Health in Oncology: Patients undertake their role” was one of the main subjects during the 8th Days of Oral Oncology by the Hellenic Society of Oral Oncology, HSOO, www.oraloncology.gr, which was held in Athens, October 5, 2019. The unmet need of the digital conversion of Health, and more precisely in Oncology was presented. Early diagnosis and the new effective anticancer therapies and techniques have increased the prognosis of cancer patients. The number of cancer survivors is anticipated to increase until 2022 up to 18 million. The patients need to collect and update the information, related to their multiyear medical history and treatment, for better communication with their doctors and best for the best treatment. A variety of digital, online platforms and tools have been constructed to enhance patients’ communication, care and support. The online recording of symptoms by the patients themselves was found to assist the evaluation of the doctors, to increase survivorship and improve supportive care. CureCancer - mycancer.gr – specially constructed for the needs of the cancer patient CureCancer - mycancer.gr online platform and tool was created in Greece aiming at helping patients to record their medical history, their medications and the clinical outcome. CureCancer - mycancer.gr is hosted at Athens Startup Business Incubator (Th.E.A.), which is one of the most important initiatives of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). Patients record and update the information of their medical history, upload their laboratory tests, and follow their symptoms. By this way an automatic abstract of their history is created for the attending physician. The patients can communicate the history with their doctor, and help him to early interventions and best and most appropriate supportive care. CureCancer - mycancer.gr attracted the interest of a crowded meeting attendants, dentists, with interest in cancer supportive care, medical oncologists, radiotherapists, pediatric hematology doctors, and ENT, nursing oncology, and representatives from patient associations. The event was endorsed by the Athens Dental and Medical Association, the Hellenic Medical Oncology Association, the Radiotherapy Oncology Society, the Hellenic Society of Pediatric Hematology, Head and Neck Cancer Society, the Hellenic and International Society of Targeted and Molecular Therapy, the Women for Oncology, Hellenic Society of ENT, Medical Mycology, National Nursing Oncology, Hellenic Association of Cancer, and the Multinational Society of Supportive Care in Cancer.
