What do you know about HPV in Greece? Events, Seminars, & Publications 26. 10. 2022 Knowledge, Perceptions and Practices of the General Population About Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The protection offered by the vaccine and the frequency of HPV infection emerged, in the present study, as the main factors that would influence the decision of parents to vaccinate their children. The study was conducted by "Karkinaki" in collaboration with the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Outcomes Research - CLEO. 1,006 people with a median age of 38 years participated. The discussion organized by KARKINAKI for the presentation of the results was addressed by important Health Care Professionals and specialists, Dr. Christina Tsopela - Pediatrician, Dr. Kostas Daloukas - Pediatrician, Dr. Odysseas Savouras - Gynecologist - Obstetrician and Ms. Pisti Krystallidou, President of the Non-Profit “Win Cancer”. Ms. Irini Agapidaki, General Secretary of Public Health, presented the National Screening Program for Cervical Cancer, emphasizing the necessity of National Prevention Programs for all citizens. Dr. Daloukas referred to the active and critical role of the pediatrician in informing parents about the vaccination of children, as one of the most drastic preventive measures. Dr. Savvouras referred to the role of the gynecologist regarding information and prevention against the virus, not only in terms of screening for Cervical Cancer but also the gynecologist's communication with the mother. Ms. Krystallidou referred to the joint actions of Win Cancer with KARKINAKI to inform and raise awareness of society and the state about the need to prevent the HPV virus. A general conclusion was on the value of the importance of the HPV vaccine in health and cancer prevention. HPV causes cancer in men and women, as the HPV vaccine is the only – currently available – vaccine that prevents forms of cancer. The critical contribution of cancer screening of the cervix in women was also highlighted.
